There are a couple other ways:
1. Replace the cat with straight pipe. Illegal, but 100% feasible and
there are some performance and sound benefits to the exhaust gasses not
going into an open chamber and then reducing in volume again for the
exhaust pipe.
2. Ask around for someone else's no-good cat. Around this list, cats go
bad often enough that someone will inevitably have a replacement within
a few weeks for you (permitting you to keep your good one -- or to
trade it).
3. Get a by-pass valve. These are available at many auto parts stores
and virtually every auto performance shop. Basically, it's a Y-section
with a cable-operated gate to select the path of transit for the
exhaust. Install two and be able to switch your cats on and off at will
:)
