[s-cars] S4 Chips

I think that you'll find many who agree with what's been said. I have
about 124K on my S6 and don't see any problems related to the upgrades;
Stage 1 at about 40K, Stage 3 at about 80K. I would say that the Samco
hoses are mandatory with additional boost. If you are in Reno, why not
drive over the hill to Davis and visit 2Bennett? I'm sure that they
could motivate you to begin you voyage down the slippery slope to more
performance. Don't forget to keep timing belt changes up to date. If
you lose one of those, it isn't pleasant.

It should not affect the engine in a detrimental way, assuming you
understand the following:

1. ALL maintenance is up to date....fresh fluids, filters, plugs, etc.
All
hoses and belts in good shape. You may want to secure some vacuum lines
and
change to some silicone/Samco hoses as more boost puts a lot of stress
on
these areas.

2. You choose the right chip...nothing that's poorly designed, no
running
lean, no manual/electronic boost controllers that override the built-in
safety features of the ECU, etc. Get boost gauge and most likely EGT
gauge
to monitor things

3. You understand that if the service life of a part is 200K miles at
normal
boost and speeds, it may become only 150K with chip....that to me is not
failure, just more stress on certain parts due to increased HP. The same
is
true for brakes.....they may work fine, until you are running fast and
stopping harder a lot, and find they need to be upgraded. Same for
certain
hoses, etc.

I did my chip at 65K miles, and no problems. I did full RS2 at 85K
miles,
and no problems. But I did track the car, and did break things now and
then
due to the increased power and speeds. But that's what you need to plan
ahead for.

Have fun!

Bruce
(all of the above is my humble opinion)

I can reasonably expect performance wise, and if they feel it will
