Good synopsis, Vincent but you overlooked one thing.  My recommended
modifications inserted:

Third step, peel back the rubber boot surrounding the back of the MFTS
connector cable and examine the thus exposed wires for breaks/excessive
corrosion.  A small coolant leak in the vicinity of the MFTS tends to
collect inside this rubber piece and can lead to corrosion - sometimes
sufficient corrosion to "eat" the wires completely away. BTDT.

The next step then becomes the fourth step.
