I was driving my '82 Euro urq in Portland, Maine (yeah, the end of the trolley) yesterday and somebody in a Nissan or Toyota Camry waves and gives me a "thumbs up."  Next stoplight we were next to each other.  He said "nice car--does it have the turbo..."   No questions like: is that a Scirocco" or "what is it?"  The guy knew (more or less).  First time--ever--that my near mint '82 Euro urq (with "quattro" vanity plate and blacked out tail lights) had ever been "recognized" by somebody not already in another urq....  I verified the turbo when the light turned green.... ;-)
Actually made the challenges and hassles of ownership worthwhile.

PS. Interesting comment by Paul Giletta--that no one wants to sell their urq.  They haven't shown up in the Quattro Quarterly of late, or in Autoweek, or even on the urq list; occasionally on eBay--a few nice ones and a few that, well, are just parts cars."   Very interesting.....
