Bill,
On the MY 92' Audi shipped out a car with an manual Diff. Lock Button that could be Locked via pressing a button where the later Model Year (MY) replaced with a coin holder (http://www.urs4.com/S4S6/S4S6_modelchanges.html) By pressing this button you could LOCK your rear diff up to 15 MPH when you were in very slick situations. Some listers have figured out how to by-pass this 15MPH limit.
If you look under the car on the rear differential you can see a white unit that has a vacuum line going to it with an actuator that would lock the diff.
As for performance I wish I had tracked the car before and after the install however I have only done it afterwards. What I can tell you that WOT 1st gear on a 90 deg. turn I do not lose traction on the dry or in the wet. This with a suspension, full Stromung exhaust, 2.8 BAR Chip, 7A Exhaust Cam, and Bridgestone 245/40 S03 tires. It should be more interesting w/ my Garrett Hybrid and RS2 conversion w/ FMIC later this Summer/Fall.
I know that is not much help but it is my experience.

Thanks Cody,
Please excuse my ignorance, but what can you tell me about this
differential vacuum lock? i.e. whats it do? Where's it located?
What's it look like? Where's it connected? Can I re-route it to the EM
for more boost;) ?
Could you elaborate on the performance, particularly trackwise if you
could comment.
Cheers'
Bill M

Hey Bill,
Yes I do have a Rear Torsen Differential from a V8. Bob Pastore
saved my butt by quickly sending me out a diff. after I foolishly
destroyed mine in about 2' of snow ;-)
I had ASW put the Diff. in and it works awesome and saved me
some MAJOR cheese from a new unit. I cannot comment on the exact
"how-to" of the process but I believe it is only 2-3 hours of work for
an experienced mechanic.
The only question I still have is it sounds like the differential vacuum
lock is still trying to activate or meter when I shut the car off as you
can hear sort of a buzz from the diff. Anyone know how to shut this
off? Just a matter of pulling a fuse?
Thx

Subject: [s-cars] Rear Diff Install Questions
Folks,
Welcome back Igor and..
I am planning on installing a new (old V8 torsen) rear differential
installed next week and wonder if there are any BTDT's WRT to this
procedure? Parts needed?
I thought Cody Payne?? may have done this (or outsourced it.) ???
Anyone else?
In looking through the family album I could surmise hex bolts, gaskets
and grease are needed at least.
Any other suggestions or help would be much appreciated.
TIA
Bill M -Clueless as usual;)
