[s-cars] NAC/SETI

It's unlike me to bite on the WOB, but,
I used to do some work with some geeks...err...guys at the Ohio State
University Radiac laboratory, supplying them with equipment that would move
radio transmitters and receivers in micron or sub-fractional arc seconds
increments to determine the effect of the radio signal when bounced off of
certain targets from different orientations. To this day, I'm afraid that
if I said what these targets were, men in dark suits and sunglasses would
pull up to my office in black Suburbans and carry me away.
Anyhow, the purpose of the lab, at one time, was to listen to the skies,
searching for extraterrestrial intelligence. In the years that their big
dish antennas were pointed skyward, they did have one unexplained blip in
the background static of outer-space noise, which was proudly printed out on
what looked like a seismograph trace with a brief earthquake in the middle
of it, and displayed in the entryway of the building. Long after the SETI
experiments' funding dried up, some of the lab guys proudly continued the
search for extraterrestrial life on their own PC's, although I'm not sure if
it was through Berkeley or not. The program was kind of like a screen saver
that showed static all the time. Kinda neat if you're in to that type of
thing. This was about 8 years ago.
