It's not a heater pump, it's an after run pump... The after-run pump will turn on if the engine is too hot when you shut down, keeping the coolant circulating. It's not used too much (need's to be really hot !), and this protects the turbo. The neck is a hard plastic that get brittle and can leak, you need to replace the whole unit.
Cheers, /James.

Subject: [s-cars] bad heater control valve and heater water pump?
One of our 93 S4's decided to take a leak on South Westnedge yesterday!
Looked under da hood and what did I see, what appears to be a valve on
the driver's side of the engine down low, it has a coolant line running
to it from under the intake manifold, and one exiting it and running
behind the engine, and an electrical connection on the front of it.
Well anyway, this piece is cracked and leaking coolant.
Dropped it off at a local audi tech that I trust, I have been informed
that I need both a heater control valve (what I thouught) and a heater
pump. I had no idea there was a heater pump.
Any BTDT?
Thanks
Chris
