[s-cars] Driver side mirror

Hi Dan;

The rubber lower door cover on the UrS4 has a steel stiffener inside the
rubber. The ends of the rubber strip are not sealed over the steel, just
folded over. Demon water and/or road salt makes it's way inside over a 10
year period and turns the ends of the stiffener into powder. The now unstiff
cover bows outward and flaps in the breeze like a whore's hanky.
Preventative maintenance is to seal the ends of your new cover with Marine
Goop or a suitable facsimile.

Don't know if the UrS6 uses the same lower covers - maybe Audi upgraded the
stiffener to stainless steel in this highly refined version of the UrS4 (
hey, you got chrome gauge trim rings, didn't you?).

HTH

Listeners: I have been reading the recent posts regarding the
replacement of the lower door trim. Is this problem characteristic on
all S-Cars? Are there any tell-tale signs of the problem? On what part
of the car does the rust occur? Is it just the brackets for the trim
{My '98 A4 had the same problem, where the brackets rusted-out, but did
not affect the door itself}, or does the sheet metal of the door
rust-out? Is there any preventative maintenance that can be performed?
My 95.5 S6 has 85k miles and does not show any signs of rusting. The PO
spent a lot of time in Florida and Colorado as well as some winters here
in Northeast Ohio. I would appreciate any BTDT. Thanks,

Dan
