[s-cars] W32.Bugbear.B@mm virus WARNING!!!

Since Eudora saves attachements into a normal file directory (instead of encoded in the mail database), they are scanned by any A/V software you might have installed when Eudora writes the files into the directory. (McAfee, AVG, Norton)

This isn't the case for Outlook or Outlook Express, even to the point where TRW has now forbid the use of those two programs on company computers.

I also use Zone Alarm, but AFAIK, this won't do anything to prevent viruses, just unwanted access to your computer.

Also anyone who works for a reasonably sized office will probably find that their IT department will provide them with a "home edition" of the corporate A/V software, free of charge, employee home use is usually included in corporate license packages.

Cheers,
Keith

You have just been lucky, Mihnea. I get reports from AVG fairly frequently
(like perhaps once or twice per month) of email attachments which have been
determined to be viral and have been isolated safely in "the virus vault"
by AVG where I can decide what to do with them later. Usually the decision
is simple - get rid of the offending file. I use Eudora and like it very
much as an email program but it does nothing to prevent viral attack. I'm
on a cable modem but I also use ZoneAlarm as a (free again) software
firewall. Even with ZoneAlarm, AVG finds incoming viruses every now and then.

Go to http://www.grisoft.com and download AVG. It's free and does a great
job.
