[s-cars] stereo doesn't require security code..

I had to disconnect the battery from my car today.  I had the stereo's
security code in hand to activate the stereo, but I was surprised when the
stereo powered up without the code!  If it is working properly, should I be
able to power on the stereo without the code?

I'm hoping this is related to my CD changer not working... every other route
has been a dead end..
