Might be  a bad ballast, Paul - I just went through this. Mine would ignite,
burn for 10 minutes or so, and go out. As the ballast deteriorated, the
light would flicker and go out immediately - turning it off and on several
times would eventually get it to light. I verified my diagnosis by swapping
the ballasts and the problem moved from the right to the left side.
HIDkits provided another ballast for half price as mine was out of the one
year warranty period. Apparently it is unusual for the ballast to fail
before the capsule.

I'd suggest swapping the ballast to see if the problem moves to the other
side.

Gents-

Friend's got an '00 A6 2.7T mit xenon's.  Out of nowhere, the right one
works intermittently.  Sometimes it comes on fine.  Other times it will
flash quickly, but not stay lit.

Bad igniter?

Bueller?
