[s-cars] MTM +1 Impressions

Steve:

I would say that the torque curve has not changed its position, its just
steeper and higher now. I don't think the stock torque curve was low and
flat, with the stock chips, the power didn't really come on until 3000
rpm and there was very little torque from idle to 2000 rpm. This is what
I really noticed when I first bought the car - it had very little torque
down low and I could get caught in 2nd gear just off idle with no
acceleration. I got used to this quickly though and changed my driving
habits to suit.

With the MTM+1, there is still not a lot of torque off idle and as with
the stock chips, not much really happens until 2000-2500 rpm. It really
kicks in at 3000 rpm and up and I mean *kicks* literally. It has so much
pull in the 3000-6000 range that its almost scary. I find myself backing
off thinking something will break or let go! Actually, when backing off
its hard to do this smoothly and it shocks the drivetrain from the
sudden loss of power.

All in all, I'm very happy with it, love the sudden rush of power and
its still docile at 25-50% throttle. It does ping slightly when going
from light throttle to full, and I've heard that this is solved by using
a VMAP adjustable pressure sensor set at 2.9 bar.

I'm glad, Sean, you're happy with +1. I'm considering +1 or +3.

Perhaps you or other listers can fill in missing information for me:
Everyone speaks highly of the power; can you all comment on the changed
nature of the torque curve? I like the stock torque curve, low and flat
-- and/but am willing to trade some for more high-end power. The
(limited) specs on +1, +3 call for torque at higher revs than stock but
I've never seen a plot.

What does your seat of the pants say -- how different is the nature of
the beast when compared to stock? Steve V. Mercer Island, WA 95.5 S6
