I also have this problem..but my control arms seem fine...replaced left motor mount, snub mount, checked the starter wire conduit...swaybar bushings replaced....tonight I took a rubber mallet to the suspected area to see if I could find the noises...right hand side I could not replicate...however on the left hand side..hitting the tire I would get a pretty big knock/clunk/vibration in the strut area. I jacked up the car and as I jacked it up I could not replicate...I lower the car back down off the jack and NOW it cannot replicate even on the left hand side.
Any ideas here..Loose strut? Bearings? Gremlins?
Cheers

Ok,
Here's my past and recent experience with this
"noise".
I only got this "popping" at the track so it was hard
to pin down. Then, I've been having other "issues"
with Edwin, mainly oil seepage from the turbo area.
Consequently this seepage destroyed my passenger side
motor mount and pass side subframe mount. Ok, fast
forward, new motor mount, new subframe mount, hmmmmm,
same noise, shit. Back onto the lift, darned if it
wasn't the inner control arm bushing. The whole
control arm could be moved up and down contacting the
frame member. As long as I hit bumps or unweight the
right front I get the dredded thunking noise. Neadless
to say a new contol arm is going in on Monday.
Oh, BTW, here's a question for y'all, anybody know of
just a replacement bushing for this strut instead of
the whole thing? Here's the why of that question, the
new arm shows up with a separate bushing that needed
to be pressed in. Hello, can I find the separate
bushing or no?
