[s-cars] RE: Avant Roof Railings

The aluminum roof rails on my Avant are terribly stained, as are the
chrome trim pieces around the windows.  I have tried metal polish, but
think that these pieces are clearcoated.  3M fine polishing compound
only leaves it looking somewhat better.  Any other tried and true
solutions?
