But why? Unless you have some compelling alternative reason, i.e. there
isn't an existing chipset that will handle your particular hardware problems
&/or configuration, like say Hap, IMO the chips you select should do your
control boost very nicely. Plus, as a part of an integrated control system,
I think ECU chip control can offer better safety since the ECU's knock
sensors be used to control boost as well as timing when & if knock, or other
conditions are present.
There are other chip alternatives out there, some in my opinion, smoother
and based on recent list comments less troublesome than the Hoppen/MTM
version. See if you can find some one around you who's done different chips
and try to swap boxes for a day. Find out what your alternatives are going
to be if there's a chip "install" problem or glitch. Working with someone
who's got a known to be good back up E
If you're modifications are going to be going 18+ psi more frequently, a
better set of hose clamps and/or a SAMCO Silicon hose upgrade while not
absolutely required, are a prudent investment. If your lower Michelin man
hose (the one that connects the x-over pipe to the intercooler intake)
hasn't been replace in sometime, think about carrying around a spare, or
some fiberglass strapping tape along with a roll of duct tape to make a
temporary patch to get you home when, not if, you blow it. That particular
hose seems to be the weakest link in the hose network. If cost is a major
consideration, I don't know that you have to redo all the intake track hoses
in SAMCO Silicone, but if you were only going to chose one, that would be
the one to do.

~Hello everyone,
~
~I'm new to the list and have a couple questions.
~
~I recently purchased a 1992 s4 and am planning to go with the MTM chip
~and possibly the HCS IV boost controller.
~
~1) Is it wise to get both the chip and the boost control if
~everything else remains stock (For the time being)
~
~2) Are Samco silicon boost hoses required/highly recommended at
~this level of modification?
~
~
~Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
~
~Thanks!
