France is doing the same type of efficient choice. Millions are spent on highway automatic systems to catch those who drive faster than 130 km/h but nothing against cigarettes which killed 10 times more people. Go figure.

Jup, that's the most annoying part.. Roads built for 150km/h, but only 100 allowed. And BIG fines if you break the rules.. Norway has about 400 traffic casualties /year, and even if 1 casuality is too much, they spend more money and focus on reducing traffic accidents than they put into e.g. heartstarters in _every_ ambulance/patrol car, which would save about 3000 people/year.. Funny, isn't it?

But please don't mention how much 4-lane highways we have, you have probably driven all the 400 kms of it, except for some km's round Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger,  Frederic.. ;o))

Speed bumps, this is a very interesting concept !!!!

Actually, don't get me wrong, sweden and norwich highways are still better than some US Highways like Highway 101 or 280 in the Bay area (California). In particular the curves were really designed for high speed !!

In Norway we call those level changes 'speed bumps', but you might not be familiar with the concept.. The flashing lights were just because we're supposed to use DRL's here, and you descendants of Asterix don't waste engine power on such unnecessary lighting!!

Oh. You were passing them? like in 'overtaking' them in 200?? ;o))

Damn, now I understand why people were flashing their light when I was passing them at over 200 km/h last year in august. But I can tell you neither on the way to North of Oslo and on the way back to Paris, we saw police cars or met policemen in both countries. May be we were too fast...

More serioulsy I had one of my scarriest experience in Sweden on the way back when I was driving over 220 km/h and I saw like a change of level of the pavement of the highway. The two pieces of metal (Reverse U
shape) near the catalyst converters on the chassis literraly touched the ground with a lot of sparks. Fortunately it was the only damage on the car.

Lol! Well, I guess it's nice to see the positive in things! ;o)

With the new highway from the Öresund bridge all the way through Sweden, that ride is done in about 7 hours or so. well built 4-lane 110km/h road almost to the Norwegian border, and then the mayhem starts... :o) Toll boots, 'armed' parking officers and speed traps everywhere.

The cell phone coverage is great, though, but that's because 30% of the roads are in tunnels. Or so it seems.. ;o)

Norway? one of the greatest places on earth...hell, you don't even loose your cell phone connection while driving through 2 mile long tunnels. In Detroit your phone goes dead if you stand too close to a tree :-) Their roads...thousands of miles of road course...I wonder if my wife will let me take the rental car from Copenhagen north next week?????? probably not :-(

(The E18 webcam is btw. from the _main road_ between Oslo and the south country. A really narrow and underdimentioned road, wich is on its way to become a 2-lane in a few years. Financed by tolls, even if we've already payed for it several times through horrible taxes! Unbeleiveable, but true!)
