Mucho Gracias to all who have rallied for me on the 0 hp ATW problem.
I was about to give up last night until mr Pastore emailed that if vag com
cant see 'engine' it's prolly a fuse above ECU blown. Now I know Bob has a
piano hinge on his passenger carpet that I dont have, but okay I take a look a
surenuff the 15 amp fuse is blown. Genius I tell ya, now we're on to something.
I think its the new sway bar install that screwed up sumthin and mr
Pederhousen emails sway bar pix that might help. 'Smokin' Ed Walsh, emails info from
SJM indentifying blown fuse is for ECU to coils. Okaydoky. Paul Gailus does
nothing less than stop by on his way home to lend his electrical engineering
prowess to ID coil #4 has short to ground that consistently blows said fuse. And
Bob Pastore calls and offers to get a new coil delivered to me tomorrow and
emails confirmation.
Thanks thanks thanks men!
Assuming the POS/PSO is OK, which it seems to be, I am rather confident that
the new coil install will work and all will be well with the flying pig once
again. If I can find out what might have caused this coil to blow, I will
surely post the answer, cause there's nothing worse than a suddenly dead vehicle
and 0 hp ATW.
I hadnt read of this happening before, but it would be nice to know what
caused it, how to prevent it and how to easily ID and perhaps disable the
offending coil. I can say that if your car dies, you open the hood and see smoke
whispering out the back end of coil cover thru the wire holes, chances are you
have a blown coil:(
Cheers'
