Well, the Hyperboost valve was waiting for me when I returned from Calgary
last night, so it got installed this afternoon. I didn't expect any major
change in oomph, but I got some interesting results. All SOP; no GTech.
The valve removed was a two year old 710A. I had decided it needed
replacement because SOMETIMES it seemed to be bleeding boost, as in, there
wasn't much of anything. Why it would occasionally still have "power" is
beyond me. The diaphragm does not look torn, but the glue seal looks
questionable around the diaphragm. In any case, when it was new, the
acceleration had seemed smooth and delightful. As time passed, the
acceleration didn't seem as great AND was definitely not as smooth, or maybe
I should say"even" or "steady".
Can't tell if there is any more oomph with the new valve. What is obvious
is that acceleration is once again VERY smooth. Instead of the "gathering"
feeling before the boost that had developed, it is much more gradual and
smooth. IN second and third, the needle just swings past 5 grand without
any apparent lag in getting started. I used to watch the needle and see it
starting to "get going" in the past months, but now it just goes.
So, I seem to be getting my boost more smoothly and more quickly. Don't
know if I gained any power, but I seem to have less peaky boost performance.
Not exactly what I anticipated after all the commentary, but that's my story
on it after a quick back to back. And it was a good time to compare,
because as I drove back from the airport last night, I definitely had power
and boost, just with a delayed rush. I'll report any different observations
in the next few days.
One more subjective data point,
Steve
