Went racing yesterday and must report that I, uhmm , kind a like it:)
First time at Blackhawk Farms a 1.9 mile track about 2 hours NW of Chgo. Lot
of curves in this short road coarse, which a quite difficult for an avant
with a not so great professional pilot as myself.
I was in B group and first practice session, I passed 2 or 3 cars and, thus,
had a hard time learning the course at the higher speeds I was capable of.
Straightaways were an absolute blast, once passing 3 slower cars. Speed was the
'pigs' strong suit. Curves not so great, though I was making progress
balance the voices that say brake now and dont brake now. I thought braking first
hard then easing up and applying the power was working real well. I'm open to
donations of some hoosiers and LW track wheels. The HRSB (tm) made a HUGE
improvement in cornering. A big improvement IMHO. I used second setting but next
time would go (yes) even firmer and hope nothing breaks 8/
And speaking of breaking, not to be confused with braking. During the first
timing session my clutch started slipping which made things really difficult.
Upon underhood inspection the overflow release valve would click and release
pressure, but the is a bigger leak somewhere low in front of the drivers side
it seems. I'm going to check it out tomorrow but would appreciate any hints
on likely culprits to check there. I kinda figured the coolant got into the
clutch and was causing the slippage?
I also noticed upon inspection again tonight that there was a space 1/16th to
1/8th inch between trans and bell housing on the top side.
I have retorqued these bolts, which I should have done prolly a week or two
after trans install, but as usual I was too dumb to think of it. This could
have caused some slippage too I'm sure and allowed extra leaking coolant in.
Stay tuned and anythoughts appreciated.
TIA
cheers'
Bill M
