Edwin -
Among other parts back there, the Avant comes with a rear stabilizer bar
(RSB). In stock, The bar sits in two (2) rubber grommets, fairly easily
accessed especially if you have a lift. Don't ask me how I know this, but
IMO&E urethane grommets make the noise worse should you ever have the
occasion to experience this transformation.
You should be able to pull the retaining "clips" that hold the grommets in
place (4 bolts, 2 per side); the grommets split, or you might as well get
two new ones, they don't cost much, and replace the old. I'm sure some wag
on the list will have an appropriate (or, given the propensities of some,
inappropriate) grease on rubber lubrication recommendation.
No idea if this will be of any help with your noisy rear end, but hey....
you have to start some where right?
Now I have chirping bird sounds coming from ...... ?? trapped sparrows or
finches in the left front wheel well

~Hello,
~
~Unfortunately, my 1995.5 S6 Avant seems to have decided that it wants to
~annoy me every morning with creaking noises from the rear suspension. I
~think they started soon after a big icy rainstorm last weekend here in
~Boston. I'm fairly sure that some of the salt/rain/crud got in there and
~is causing the creaking, so I would like to know if anyone else has
~already fixed something like this and could point me towards the right
~set of components/joints to lube up or otherwise clean out.
~
~Thanks,
~Edwin
