Tom,

Yes it is illegal to leave your car running while filling up your tank
in Canada.
The attendant is not allowed to activate your pump unless you are:
Not smoking
Over the age of 16
Your car is not running
Using a portable tank with govn't seal clearly visible.

This is stated on every pump in writing and pictures.

I have heard stories that in the deep north and Winnipeg during deep
winter (-40F/C) they allow you to get gas with the engine running due to
the fact that they don't want their station filled with parked cars that
won't start again.

speed limit.  But...

Heh, what, did you all miss the "I don't wanna hear it from the
treehugginhippies" part???  8-).  And, no, that was not an environmental
