It's actually quite simple...

The worst thing you can do to a car is start it.  It's better for the engine
to keep running and stay lubricated, especiallly when the oil is cold.

One of my best friends who's been a European car mechanic for 25 years told
me that.

Now that is really silly of me ... last time I checked it took 2 seconds to
turn off the car and 2 seconds to start it. How in the world could I have
missed the obviously highly intelligent reason for not turning off the
engine. Those 4 seconds really make a difference.
