[s-cars] Leaving the engine running

Yeah, that particular manual statement caught me a bit off guard as well...
I think the books for all the new cars say the same thing.  For Audi, It may
have carried over from certain German practices, but in this country it's an
emissions thing.

My guess would be that it will run richer for a greater period of time if
the car is sitting there idling, thereby polluting the air with greater
quantities of crapola than if you were to start driving the car immediately.

I usually idle for 30-60 seconds for the first start of the day till I hear
the motor quiet down.  Then gently pull away.

I agree with Marc's assessment. However, if you read
the S4 owner's manual (i assume the S6 is similar if
not identical) Audi actually poo-poo's idling to let
the car warm up and recommends starting and driving
off instantly to bring the motor quickly to operating
temps.

Very weird and against everything I've been taught.
