The DVD-R Help website (formerly VCD Help) offers the following hack to get
into the service menu for the Sony DVP-S7700:

Yep, shoulda kept the DVP-S7000 with the DIP switches. Not only could you
turn off region coding, but also Macrovision! (The Macrovision copy
protection signal that prevents a VCR from making a good recording isn't
actually on the DVD... when playing a copy-protected DVD (i.e. most movies)
the DVD *player* actualy adds Macrovision scrambling to the outgoing video
signal!)

Subject: [s-cars] RS6 DVD help!

Just procured two RS6 DVDs from an acquaintance at q GmbH. Color me
excited. That is, until I loaded them up in to the Sony 7700 and got a
"This DVD not coded for use..." error message.

Ok, who is going to be able to get these things to run (I sold my Sony
7000 which had a DIP switch that allowed me to change country codes.
Dumbass).

BTW, anyone catch the F1 Round 1? No schumi on the podium! Oh mien got
in himmel!
