[s-cars] Vented Batteries?

If you use the MT-41, tell your rear seat passengers to be careful with the
seat heater!

Seriously, because the battery is inside the passenger compartment, you want
the MTP-91 which is set up for a vent hose. The MT-41 doesn't use a vent
hose, but it isn't a sealed battery either... the hydrogen gas produced
during charging has to go somewhere! Make sure to ask for the "vent hose
kit" with the MTP-91. This is a short hose that goes from the center vent
location on the MTP-91 over to the Audi factory vent hose location at the
end of the battery.

If you want to avoid the venting issue, you might consider the Optima sealed
battery that some listers have used. I believe this is a sealed lead-acid
gel-cell design. However, it will be more expensive, and I've been told
there are issues with gel-cell batteries not fully recharging if you do a
lot of short-trip driving. But no acid or hydrogen gas to worry about.

Subject: [s-cars] Vented Batteries?

Looking for a battery. Interstate seems to be the consensus. Their website
indicates two choices, the MT-41, which appears to not be vented, or the
MTP-91, which appears to be vented. The MT-41 is priced at $78.95, the
MTP-91 is priced at $95.95. Scott Thompson replied to my earlier post that
in his research, the MT-41 lacks a vent. Brian Montgomery replied saying he
has an MTP-91, vented, and it's been fine for him. Given that the S6 needs a
type 41 battery, the MT-41 seems to be both cheaper and the correct
configuration, but lacks a vent. Anyone with an opinion as to how important
the vent is? TIA,
-Ian Duff.
