Nathan, this is what I used, I had these tools already, so no cost to me.
one soft grip Craftsman 12 in. Bar Clamp (sorry, long URL police):

I used this procedure:
1. Put clamp against piston, clamp down using moderate pressure (not too
tight).
2. CAREFULLY grab piston with channel locks without grabbing the dust boot.
Turn piston (I forget the direction, anyone? anyone? Beuler?)
3. Retighten the clamp as the piston turns and sinks into the caliper.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the piston is inside the caliper (fully
retracted).
Note: It was a little fussy trying to turn the piston with the clamp in
place, but once the piston starts to turn, it gets easier. YMMV.
