New Jersey (laughter subside...)
Did I mention that my wife is an architectural designer (now home with 3
kids), but can't stop designing/drawing most of the time? Anybody need some
home design on the cheap?
Marc, She WOULD enjoy living next door - and it might be for your better
half's company more than you ;-)

1. If you have lots of land and are planning on an out-building for
your garage, look at a Quansun hut style (or other style) metal prefab
building. The cost of pouring concrete and slapping the building down
will give you about four to six times the floor-space for the same
price as building an addition to your home (gee, 6 car garage for the
price of a 1.5 car add on?). They're a bitch to A/C and heat (because
of volume), so if you live in a place with extreme climates, and tend
to spend many working hours in the garage, take that into consideration.

2. Radiant IR heaters (the type not integrated into the surfaces):
those these are great concepts at staying warm at a low-cost, they're
not real smart if you tend to play with fuel leaks (and leaking fuel
rails). The in-slab heaters work very well, especially if you are in an
environment that is cold much of the year. Q: where is this garage to
be -- what state/city?

3. I forget to mention the paint booth, didn't I? (laughs).

I second, third and fourth that! Matter of fact, it was so ingrained in
my thinking that I didn't even consider the alternative.

Yes, she will, but not because of the garage or anything to do with
cars -- trust me on that :)

And Paul, yes, you can hire me -- and I do more than just garages (I've
been tinkering with the idea of writing a book on intelligent home
design -- ever wonder why 95% of tub enclosures never have a soap dish
up high on the wall just under the shower head where the soap won't get
worn down by the spray? That's an example of less-than-intelligent
design, given that integrating soap dishes at time of construction is
under $15). My other half is working on her Master's degree in
Architecture right now and plans on becoming a full certified architect
specializing in such intelligent home designs.

Fleeking Bastids, to tell me what I can or can't have in my home!
Explain to the zoning guy that it's an odd-shaped pool or jacuzzi and
then slip him a case of premium beer....

Cheers!
