Mike,
I absolutely HATE the Bose radios in these cars. The head units, the
amplifiers, everything about them sucks. My advice would be to replace it
with a more conventional setup. That's what I finally had to do in my '91.
Of course you will have to replace the speakers too as some genius at Bose
figured that if they used 1 ohm speakers they could force you to stay with
the same brand.
Windshield wiper reservoir is most likely the seams where the plastic is
molded together. The seams have a tendency to separate over time.
Sometimes two-part epoxy works, sometimes it doesn't. I wound up having to
replace mine.

Subject: [s-cars] Timing Belt - R&R
Hi guys - Well, my wife Slavka and I finally transferred title on
our "new" '92 urs4 and we're ready to start the adventure. Our first Audi!
So
there are a couple of things at the top of list:
1. Timing Belt - I did an inspection and found the belt was cracked from
age.
Time for a replacement. It looks like a nightmare project, but I haven't dug
into it yet. Things look very tight up there. How much trouble is this and
what else should I replace if I go through the effort? Multi-rib belt?
2. Radio - Figure out why the radio makes that horrible sound in the right
front speaker. Very loud tone burst as soon as the radio is turned on. My
understanding is that the front speakers are driven by their own independent
amps. Perhaps the right amp is smoked? Oddly this happens intermittently.
When
the tone burst is gone, there's a low rumbling noise coming from the same
speaker. Left front and rear speakers seem to be fine. What's the right
procedure to check where the damage is? Seems like it's either the head unit
or the right front speaker.
3. Windshield Wiper Resevoir - It leaks. I removed it but can't find
anything
obvious. Might be the motor, but I can't figure out how to pull either one
of
the washer motors out of the resevoir. I thought I'd ask before I broke
them.
Wondering if the grommets are leaking.
4. Wheels - All four OEM wheels have some curb damage. Are they fixable?
Should I bother or buy something aftermarket. Don't want to spend big bucks
here. I'm inclined to get them fixed if possible to keep the stock look and
the price reasonable.
5. Memory Thing - I can't quite figure out the procedure that sets the
memory
for the seats and mirrors. I tried exactly what it said in the manual (I
think), but the the memory seems to continue to retain the settings from the
previous owner. One of them was VERY short and the seat settings put my head
into the roof and knees up against the dash - very difficult to concentrate
in
this position. :-o
I'll get to the perf stuff later on in the Spring. Thanks to ALL on the
previous advice about braking upgrades and chipping. Can't wait for all
that!

Seattle - Not hap yet, but hope so soon. Silver '92 urs4 w/ 80k
