Might be lifter noise, Ron, it is fairly common in the I-5 engines. The AAN
engine seems less prone to it than other I-5s. Make sure your oil level is
up, the oil is changed regularly, and you use the OEM or equivalent oil
filter with the anti-drainback valve.

Subject: [s-cars] S6 Noises
My 1995 S6 is now past the 100K mile mark and
continues to perform and impress. I run Mobil 1 and
try and keep things in order as far as maintenance. It
is picking up a rattle here and there, but one in
particular has been around for a while (since @75K
miles).
On starting and at cold idle the engine has a fairly
loud rattling sound. Kick up the revs and it goes away
until it gets back to idle, then it rattles again. I
thought about the fuel injectors or the valves/cams.
Any ideas? Any concerns I should have?
Also who is a good source for seat heater parts? Door
rubber to reduce wind noise?
Thank you for your help ahead of time.
