you sure you were establishing the siphon? was the hose completely full
of liquid? was the outlet of the hose lower than the lowest point of the
gas tank? are you sure the inlet end of the hose is getting into the
fuel?
you could disconnect a fuel line somewhere and turn on the car to run
the fuel pump, but i don't see why the siphoning shouldn't work.

well, you could always drill a hole in the gas tank and get the gas
out that way. :)
