Cody,
PO did this job at non-dealer Euro-shop "R&I EXHAUST SYSTEM & MAIN DRIVE
SHAFT. R&I TRANSMISSION REAR OUTPUT COVER & REPLACED LEAKING SEAL" The part
replaced was 409 400 01E. (oil seal rear transmission) $14.95 Labor was 6.5
hours - that's $403!

The diff locks don't get used very often, so the actuator linkage tends to
rust and seize up. The vacuum lines also get leaky with age and prevent the
lock from engaging.

I believe you are right...left hand oil seal..but still doesn't explain why
the diff. lock is not working...thoughts?

Anyone changed this seal out before? Hours? Costs?
Thx

Probably the output shaft seal on that side, Cody. That's the big seal,
too - a bit of a PITA to change as I recall.

Update:
Appears to be leaking around the rear end Diff lock actuator....
Gents,
Well finally got under the car tonight as I smelled tranny fluid an saw
some leaking on the pavement from the rear end diff. Well there is some
major fluid under there..not sure exactly where it is leaking but this
cannot be good.
Thoughts? Experiances? Costs?
Yikes
