[s-cars] Temp Gauge Not Working

More stuff to ask. I'm still ramping on the car and will probably be asking
lots of questions. Hope this doesn't take too long and I can start answering
questions for other folks.

The temperature gauge on the '92 S4 hasn't worked since I bought the car. (I
did not muff it up on the tbelt change!) On rare occasion, I notice the needle
moving very slight to the right, then resumes its regular non-working position
all the way to the left.

I'd like to troubleshoot this but unsure where to start. The Bentley CD I have
doesn't appear to be working for my S4 yet. I'll get that fixed tomorrow. In
the meantime, what should I check first? There appear to be a number of
coolant sensors. Which one controls the gauge and how can I be sure it's
working?

Curiously and perhaps not coincidentally, I have never noticed the auxiliary
fan running.
