Either you (or your other half) drove with the parking/emergency brake
not fully released (could be due to a defective cable and not due to
human error), or the caliper isn't retracting as it should due to
either (A) a pressure issue in the lines (rarer), or (B) build-up
around the caliper lip of brake dust/dirt/etc (more common). Need to
take out the caliper and clean it, reseat it to check for proper
operation -- and eyeball that brake cable.

I changed the rear pads about 12 months ago (20K miles) and the right
one is scraping and will soon be damaging the rotor.
Any ideas on how I could go through a set of factory pads on the rear
in 20K miles? I usually go through two sets of front pads before the
rears need changing.
