When fully extended, four equal length (roughly) antenna sections will be
visible. I've been plagued with sticky antennas on both my '86 5ktq and my
'94 S4 and have finally found, after much experimentation, a solution to the
problem. It is particularly bad up here in the salt laden Great White North
because the antenna gets covered in road salt mist all winter, which really
gums up the works.
I tried all sorts of externally applied nostrums, from Teflon tablesaw-top
lube to waxes to various lubes. What finally worked was removing the mast,
spraying the INSIDE of the mast with Fluid Film (developed as an
anti-corrosion spray for offshore drilling rigs), and keeping the outside of
the mast wiped clean on a regular basis (like once per day). I keep a rag in
the trunk for wiping down the mast before I turn off the radio. It's a bit
of a PITA, but it keeps the mast working well in our climate.

How tall should my UrS4 antenna raise? higher than the pictures referenced
below?

I think the pictures are too big, but if you've got a high speed connection,
it'll be all right until I learn better. What's that part number for the
lower small trim piece in front of the driver's side rear wheel well? Is it
4A0 853 699 01C ?
