Hey Sean,

The stiff clutch is related to age and wear. I've never heard of one
actually wearing out to the point it won't work anymore but relacement does
lighten up the feel quite a bit. When I replaed the clutch on my car I had to
re-use the old pressure plate after figuring out I had the wrong one. I had a
much lighter pedal after just installing a new disc and throw out bearing. My
theory on this is that due to the low profile design of the pressure plate
when the disc wears the fingers of the pressure plate get into a position
where they don't have as much leverage as they did when the disc was thicker.
This is just my theory on this but changing the clutch will definitely
lighten up the pedal significantly. On the other hand if you don't do a lot
of hard launches the stiff clutch will keep on going for a long time.
