Dave:
My point is opinions and armchair quarterbacking are a LOT different than LIABILITY and pursuit of it. I don't even have to see the damn part, and I'm of the thinking that the part is defective. I lept 35feet in a 5ktq into a ditch and then slammed my way back out of one at 60mph, and the control arm bent, that's all. Audisport used them in stock form in rallying.
Where these/your posts go array (IMO>YMMV) is watching the vultures fly in a try to pick the carcass of an installer (even to the point of posting the name). Sure, you are completely correct, there are firms that specialize in this type of analysis. My post was to put in perspective what the IMPLICATIONS of what that might entail in terms of settlement/pursuit/expense vs. a simple insurance settlement (and church) vs. the return for the good of the list (which I think is complete BS).
Whatever Dave decides to do, the pursuit of liability issues he's going to be dealing with are complicated and requires more than websites and couch opinions.
Pardon me for tempering your post Dave. There are several firms that specialize JUST in automotive engineering liability that would be more helpful than what you posted. Premature comes to mind, so noted. I'm only involved in this cuz if I was Dave's mechanic, and I saw some of the early ignorant/accusatory carnage, I'd have *my* lawyer on the phone adding to his problems.
This shouldn't even be a thread. Sorry I felt compelled to completely temper your cursory google search efforts with a more thorough explanation of some of the issues you appeared to have missed.
Peace, I personally wish Dave the best of luck whatever choices he makes, and encourage him to be completely selfish in the pursuit of them.
