OK, I must be going crazy!
Now, I've done this before on my '94 S4, and I remember it taking a few tri=
es to move the steering arm to a spot where I could get the inner end of th=
e damper off the piece where the tie rods connect so I can install the new =
one. But, I've been playing with the steering arm position for about an ho=
ur on my '95 S6 Avant and haven't been able to find a spot where I can get =
the end of it over that bolt!
If I crank the wheel all the way to the left, I am hitting up against a fue=
l line and it's too tight to get it up and over the end of the bolt. If I =
turn the wheel all the way to the right, it hits up against the back of the=
firewall where it bows outward. And, I've tried just about every spot in-=
between...
Is there a particular spot where I need to be trying??? i.e. tell me about=
where the wheel needs to be to get this thing off. (for example 3/4 turn f=
rom full lock left)... this is what I am looking for.
Any advice appreciated. I am starting to think I may have to back out the =
bolt from the bottom and get it reduced by enough threads to get it off, ho=
wever there is some funky clip around the head of the bolt down there, so I=
'd rather not mess with it.
Thanks,
Dan
