Subject: Re: 90 Quattro Coupe with brake trouble -- Ned's request
Many thanks to Ned and Alex for their great comments on my wife's 1990 Coupe
Quattro. She is heading now to get it back from the great guys at 2Bennett
Audimotive. Hopefully its now fixed. She is passing your suggestions along "just
in case".
Now its my turn, I have two 1992 S4s (one in the US and one in Canada).
The US car has been upgraded (with the great help of Ned) to Stage 2 (RS2 turbo,
IA exhaust manifold, RS2 injectors, IA chipset, etc.). The goal has been to get
the most power but without introducing any more noise. It's in very good shape
with low miles. The brakes were upgraded to the Movit Porsche Big Reds (although
mine are black -- don't want to attract undue attention) and I've got a set of
17" Audi wheels (from the group buy -- thanks to Leigh).
I've had a hell of time keeping front tires on the beast because it was
impossible to reach alignment and its now going in for new 2Bennett Camber
Caster plates. Hopefully this fixes the very touchy steering too! (since I need
new tires does anybody have a recommendation?)
I've had a hell of time finding the right chip. Ned originally programmed one
for me (in the car now) but the car doesn't pull as hard as others I've ridden
in with the same hardware (except they were running a different chip). I've
swapped chips (3 different ones so far) only to find my car detonating very
badly. The Bennett boys suggest its carboned up and causing the detonation.
California crap gas doesn't help either. (Ran very well with the addition of
Toluene but still not as hard as others with the same setup).
Before I tried the chip changes, I purchased a new RS2 exhaust cam and would now
like to install it. However, I'm told it would work best with yet another chip.
I'm afraid I'll put a bunch more money into it only to introduce new detonation
problems. I would also like to know from anyone else who has done the RS2 cam
change if they thought it was worth the effort and what I should expect on the
down side (reduced gas mileage, still passes emissions inspection, etc.)
Many thanks
Roland
