Ron,
I can completely agree with what Ron and Doug are saying. I replaced my
A/C compressor last summer and sourced the compressor and dryer from
Hankock Industries (I went with a rebuilt compressor - no new ones in
stock). I had some trouble getting the correct dryer for my S6 as the
books give the part number for the A6. After returning 2 incorrect
parts, I had them send me one for an S4. Finally the correct part.
After all that, and getting everything working, I forgot to send the
core back and finally found it around Christmas time. I called them and
shipped it back and they still refunded my core charge.
It's been 10 months and it works as good as ever. I'd buy from them
again but I hope I never have to (I'd rather spend the $ on fun things
like suspension and RS2 items) and Big Reds (oops, I just did that).
Keep cool,
Paul Dooley

Subject: [s-cars] A/C compressor
Hello all,
I am in need of a new or rebuilt A/C compressor for my 93 S4. I have
been
told by more than one person/mechanic that a re-built is a real crap
shoot
as they tend to fail very quickly. But a NEW compressor is $1300!
I recall last year that somone on the list was going the re-built route
and
would be interested to hear about their experience going this way. I
have
tracked down two different companies selling re-builts with 1-yr
waranties
as long as you replace dryer/accumulator. But as we all know, the
compressor is not the only pricey part of this equation.
I suppose I would consider one from a bone-yard, but this would be
almost as
big a risk as the re-builts are supposed to be.
Call me cheap, but $2,200 for a working climate control system is a bit
much
to take!
Any info. or BTDT would be helpful.
TIA
