[s-cars] bizarre code pulled (HELP)

I was having a friend check out my car and check for any weird codes because
the check engine light was coming on occasionally.  Then it would go off
after a couple of minutes.

Anyhow, he found a P1111 code!  'No response from ECU'.  When he tried to
clear it, it would come back in a couple of seconds.  He tried unplugging
then cleaning the connections and rechecking and it the code is still there.
I thought I had seen a thread on this before, but I can't find it.  Does
anyone have any insight on the 1111 code or the occasional check engine
light?  Can my ECU be faulty and yet the car still runs fine??

Background info:  The car is running strong, no problems.  It has an MTM 1+
chip that was installed by Anderson Motorsports (Minneapolis, MN) 2+ years
ago.  The car is a 97 Canadian import.  Recent timing belt R&R (although I
don't think it's related).
