Hi Matt,
If you only want to spend ~$400, your choice is simple> Stebro, because St=
romung does not offer a cat back only product.
Cat back only adds audio level, nothing else.
I do not think cat back alone is worth the effort, stick with your OEM syst=
em and save your money.
Better yet, save up for the time you can enjoy a turbo back Stromung, syste=
m=2E I'm sharing my collecting experience for the general benefit, possessi=
ng some deranged fascination with stainless exhaust systems for the S Car!
Numerous Stromung personal accounts of same day before and after impression=
s with this system indicate a noticeable performance increase albeit small =
, but improved none the less. Whereas no one seemed interested in dyno tes=
ting before and after, including me, I can forward the email for your enjoy=
ment.
I'll add a unamimous third to the previous votes on Stromung as the best af=
termarket product for the S4/S6. (I admit openly to being biased, but havi=
ng operated numerous GP's with product improvement at the initial build, St=
romung Exhaust Engrg is very responsive to our needs.)
There are 3 distinct generations or revisions in the market. DOn't get conf=
used because the Stromung originall was OEM to TAP. and this was a beast, l=
oud and offensive.
_All_ the Stromung audio issues were solved, and there are some owners who =
prefer to leave well enough alone and use the OEM system.
This is prudent advice. COnsider that carefully.
By now you've read varying opinions on look and feel (sound) of various sys=
tems, see both and draw your own conclusion.
I personally do not enjoy the Stebro look with turned up tips nor the audio=
level. But perception is in the eye of the beholder. I also noted on one l=
isters car, the Stebro ground clearance is MUCH less than the Stromung. (l=
ike 1.5 inches) If you lower you car, and happen to roll over rough roads =
this may be a probelem, maybe not.
Stromung spent a lot of time tucking the system tight to the chassis AND pr=
eserving straight through flow and clearance for heat sensitive components.=
It's a three piece system which makes chassis maintenance easy. IT also we=
ighs in at about 70 Pounds.
There is a new product enhancement under way to improve the downpipe for RS=
2 rated power plants. This will be available later this summer stay tuned f=
or details and pictures.

93 S4.. moderate mods, and of course, the Stromung "SS" exhaust.

Without question there is no other choice besides Stromung.
To the extent you can't afford the full turbo-back setup then I suggest
you read my exhaust FAQ at urs4.com.
In summary (from least, ~$75, to most ~$1,250 + install, pricey)...
Stage 1) gutted cats,
Stage 2) custom 3" cat back (w/ or w/o intact cats),
Stage 3) Stromung
It is that simple. Don't reinvent the wheel (exhaust system). I have had
all of the above. The value prop for the 3" (gutted, factory) cat back
system (using one straight through 3" offset in / center out muffler) is
tough to beat, and although I've gone stromng (it is a diminishing
return, but the best one out there, and I am totally happy to be there)
you might be happy at Stage 2. FWIW, Stage 3, with straight pipe in lieu
of cat, is where I'll be for a long time to come.
