[s-cars] S6 Tachometer Error

I posted this a while back but can't remember what direction you all
pointed me to get it resolved...

My S6 has a tach that does not report true RPM's. A lister made a made a
keen observation that it was off roughly 17%, or the difference between
the number of cylinders in an I5 and V6. He suggested that there was a
repair done and a V6 component made its way into the instrument cluster.

Anyone know what this part may be? Any other ideas why it might be off?
