"Q: What do the NASCAR race teams use to inflate their tires? Is it a
special gas or the air that would be put in a street tire? Also, who mounts
the tires for the teams?
A: We all bleed out the compressed air and put nitrogen in them because that
is a gas that is very, very low on water content. During the course of a
run, if you were running compressed air you would probably build up more
than 50 percent more (air pressure) than we do with nitrogen. At times, I've
played around and looked for another gas to inflate the tires with that
would be even better yet and there is another gas we came up with and we
tried it. It did really build up a lot less, but there was something about
the fact that it was flammable that we, uh, decided to go against that. It
wasn't worth taking the chance. .."
Apparently, claimed to be the gas of choice for Airforce 1's tires as well,
http://www.airproducts.com/ultrafill/
Nitrogen has the added benefits of not being much of an oxidant or
flammable, if one considers those elements of much significance (like these
guys do, http://www.nitronics.com/news.htm who claim something like as much
@ 26% better tire life) as far as filling a tire goes.

I noticed that whiole Tire Rack didn't have the FM901 tires up on the websi=
te yet, they do come up on Discount Tires and 1010tires.com. Awfully good =
prices; true summer tire, but rated at only 200AA. At $107.99 in 245/40-17=
at 1010tires, I'd say they are competitively priced.
Now we need some performance info other than the hype.

That's why I have welded mine to a 3/8" extension.

I note that my last message came through as a "mulit-part MIME format" for =
some reason. Haven't a clue, as everything is still set to text only. I'l=
l see what this one does and determine whether I need to do some digging.

Subject: [s-cars] Brake Pad Warning Light, Permanent Termination
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Don't know why there haven't been any replies to my first posting of this. (
2 days ago ) Maybe because it was my first post here I did something wrong.
I am giving it a second attempt.
The issue at hand is this: Just replaced rotors and brakes with Zimmerman
slotted and Mintex Reds. Now I cannot not get the dang brake pad warning
light to shut off.
So I took some advise and decided to bypass the pad sensor. Clipped
the wire to the pad, soldered the two wires together near the connector
(male
end). Reattached the connectors together, turned the key, and sure enough,
my old friend (o) was looking at me. This tells me that it was not
necessarily the wires from the pad to the connector. Is it possible to do
the same thing with the wire further up the line, more where the wires come
through the wheel well and not having any type of connector on it?
I am sure someone out there has been through this, could you your
advise.
Thanks,
Mark W

Subject: [s-cars] Lehmann chips
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Dear S-car owners,
I am seriously looking at a '95 S6 in excellent condition. It has had a per=
formance chip installed, and according to a well-respected Audi tuning shop=
who took the chip out and looked at it, it looks like a Lehmann (Lehman?) =
chip. If it is, can anyone tell me about this chip and its expected perfor=
mance figures (hp, torque) compared to the well-known and respected MTM chi=
p when installed in an S6. This car also has the RS2 manifold with a stock =
exhaust. Are there any websites for the Lehmann stuff, or any tuning shops=
that install these that I could contact for more information?
Thanks in advance for sharing any info or experience.

Or you could use a locking 3/8" extension.

Terry or Karen-
Lehmann is a well-known Audi tuner based in Lichtenstein (or was it
Germany?) who
did a bunch of the Audi Sport engines back when Audi was rallying.
His chipset is very good- very smooth power buildup as opposed to the
much more
"on-off" behavior of the MTM- I've been in both setups and IMHO, the
Lehmann is
better.
HP and torque are pretty much the same for all of the tuners. For the
UrS it is
best to have a 3 bar chipset, but I have found out recently that 3 bar
Bosch
pressure transducers are pretty much NLA now.
For more details, I would talk to Anderson Motorsports or Hoppen.
