Well Colin, took less than I thought....
As I suspected, Kleber was the contract for the A1 and it would appear a
couple sizes were of the "metric" variety. The SQ "debut" used the 9Jx15 (not
390) Ronal (factory SQ -12mm offset) with a 235/45 VR Michelin (reference:
Jeremy Walton's Book). The fact that they were Michelins indicates to me that
audisport was most familiar with the mounting issues you and I have both had the
encountering pleasure..... As Walton's book stops at the "debut" of the SQ,
I'll have to dig some more to find "other" sizes, but I would certainly think a
245 on the 9x15 should work. I'll also say, that this appears to be the stock
SQ wheel. Lewandowski's book shows both the S1(SQ) and the S1 evo I and S1
evo II (incl PP) used 16in wheels for tarmac and gravel. Walton puts "debut"
on the 15's, so my guess is that A/S went to 16 shortly after homog of the
S1(SQ) in Sept of 83.
Trivia: Further shows that as of the Jan 83 A1 Homog, Audi went for 12"
maximum width on 15's, with the "normal" being 10's. As of A2, the allowed rim
width was reduced to 11in.
