The belly pan on audis are considered noise surpressors by audi (and so
described). 2 "other functions are in the design, brake ducting (v8 esp) and IC
airflow trap (S cars). IF you remove the BP, your IC becomes less efficient,
because airflow is no longer directed thru the IC, since there is less
resistance going around it. IF you remove the belly pan, you can make a scoop for the
IC which 'can' be as efficient as the belly pan. Unless that mod has been
done, there is a noticeable increase in charge air temp (read lower IC efficiency
= lower HP). Leave it on, or design a really good scoop and take it off. To
say it does nothing by having it on, means you shouldn't have fumbled with it
to begin with.

Believe the primary reason for the belly pan is to cut noise, if you
believe the name on the parts list -- sound dampener. Does certainly
keep the motor cleaner and couldn't hurt aerodynamics. Otherwise, does
absolutely nothing for street cred and does make oil changes easier,
once removed.
