Hi Bjorn;

The first thing to try is to open the door about 4 cm and try lifting it
from the open end. There should be absolutely no play in the lower hinge. If
you can feel movement in the lower hinge (the door moves up and down a bit),
the hinge is worn out and needs replacing. If you haven't replaced it
already, it is probably worn out on a '92. I just checked my '94 this
weekend and it is worn (I actually did the adjustment job on the upper door
carrier and took a set of photos but haven't written up the procedure yet).
If the hinges are OK, the door gaps front and rear are set by sliding the
hinges fore and aft on the A pillar. The body contour on the rear edge of
the door is set by moving the lock striker wedge in or out. If your door is
tilted (i.e. you set the contour flush at the bottom and it is too far
in/out at belt level) you will have to shim the hinges.
Is the rear edge of your front door too far in at both the bottom and at the
latch level? If so, the wedge adjustment is all that's required. If it is
too far in at the bottom and flush at the latch level, something is amiss.
If the same situation exists at the front edge, shimming the hinge will fix
it. If the front edge is flush, the door may be twisted.

What if I want to realign the whole door? My door is tilted inwards on the
bottom, and it squeeces the bottom trim and makes the trailing edge of the
lower rear door sandblasted..
is a shim under the lower hinge the only solution??
The door would fit perfectly if tilted about 1degree with the clock..

Pretty easy.  One screw at each side of the top of the panel, and two
hidden underneath the door pull.  You have to pry off a bit of the door
pull to reveal the screw.  Examine it closely and you will see what
needs to come out.  Once all the crews are removed, pull up on the
panel.
