Rokas,

The probability of success without the crank lock is very low, and the
low confidence level might make it hard to turn the key after
completion.  I would not loosen the pulley bolt without a lock,
otherwise a puzzle more intricate than the Rubix cube faces you .
Is that U of Maryland net, as in Washington, D.C. area ?  Perhaps a
lister near you may have a solution.  Some even have the tools in their
garage.
