[s-cars] Brake Upgrade Help Needed.

Well I think Linus has hit on the nail.
The rotors are the A8L 323mm rotors but I am now sure the calipers are
"standard" 993 and designed for 304mm rotors. This accounts nicely for
the approximately 20mm shortage I have. I cannot find any part number on
the calipers and since I bought them on ebay there is no real reference.
Oh, well this all part of the fun of modifying stuff. So I guess I need
either smaller rotors or different calipers.
Thanks everyone who responded. Great help!

The "standard" 993 caliper looks very simliar to the "Big Black" caliper
and
was used on other cars, such as (I believe) the 944 turbo (951)...but it
is
designed for a 304mm diameter rotor, and not the 323mm rotor. In fact,
on the
original RS2, the rotors were 304mm, not 323...the change in rotor size
was
accomodated solely by the use of the big red caliper, which sits a bit
farther
off the same RS2 bracket; similarly, a 993 can be easily upgraded to
993tt Big
Reds by simply substitutin rotor and calipers. Confirm your p/n with
someone
who has done the Big Black approach (remember you have to reverse X-over
pipe
and bleeder screws) as a substitute for the Big Red calipers. (as I did
Big
Reds, the p/n's I have won't help).
