[s-cars] shifter adjustable?

Hey everyone. The shifter in my 95.5 S6 is beginning to feel a little
sloppy for my tastes. More specifically, there is slack when moving the
shifter up and down slightly from neutral. Side to side is tight. As a
result, it's
hard to shift precisely, which sometimes results in crunching of the
synchros. I am planning on replacing the oil in the gearbox with MT-90
soon; can the shifter linkage be adjusted to prevent this looseness or
do parts need to be replaced? Thanks so much,
