The expansion tank cap is designed to vent to the atmosphere if the
cooling system pressurises. There's no way the pressure can build up to
the point of bursting tanks or hoses unless they are old and perished.
I seem to recall SJM on his website recommending replacing all the
rubber coolant hoses on high-mileage cars anyway.
